It has been a very long time since tan appealed to me; far too many Seventies bohemian connotations. But the colour palette has been recast for the modern minimalist. And it looks so good right now.

Perhaps we can thank Jonathan Anderson at Loewe for leading the way; the first time I saw the Hammock bag in tan leather, I was in but like all my favourite trends, it has taken time to develop and hasn’t just stepped directly off the runway.

Clean lines and minimal styling are key to embracing this rich neutral shade. Tan and black aren’t the most obvious pairing, but they are so chic and understated together. As is a texture play, such as juxtaposing a liquid satin slip skirt from Helmut Lang with a tone-on-tone bucket bag from Simon Miller.

Looking forward to Resort 18 (which will deliver from November), many of the go-to minimalist brands from Acne to Jacquemus and Joseph have focused on natural fabrications and neutral colours…so this is one trend that has staying power.
